What makes Pipeline unlike any other wave?

Its the most magical place on earth. The energy, the people, the views, the sounds, the history. Its the most terrifyingly beautiful place Ive ever seen. Ive never felt more alive or closer to death than in the water there. Its a wave that puts everything into perspective if youre a surfer its the holy land.

Who is the greatest Pipeline surfer of all time?

Thats a hard call, I feel like the craziest ones Ive seen are of Shawn Briley. But on a technical level I dont think anyone has ever surfed that wave like John John Florence. I really like watching the old footage of Jeff Crawford, Rory Russel, and Gerry Lopez as well.

What would a Vans Pipe Masters title mean to you?

It would honestly probably mean more to me than my world title and would be the proudest moment of my life.

Is there an advantage to being a goofy or regular footer at Pipeline?

I dont think so, theres such crazy waves out there at both Pipeline and Backdoor. I think when its really on theres potential for the wave of your life regardless of your stance. Maybe if youre just focusing on Pipe there are advantages to being a goofy footer, but the backside surfers are really able to control their speed as well.

We want you to remix an old classic. What turn do you best think suits the wave?

I mean that turn Tom Carroll did under the lip was probably the sickest turn ever done out there. To see something like that but maybe somehow even more radical or flared out would be insane.
